racist product and advertising campaign for Unilever / Eskimo
currently going up in Austria, the waves: * Eskimo currently advertises a large area, a new ice cream creation, "à la Cremissimo chocolate cake" with the slogan "I want M *". Rightly protest ensued with the demand to stop the campaign to rename the ice - but also more generally across the dessert from a new ice to give names (such as "chocolate volcano blow"). The latter happened in part in the recent past by activists, the corresponding changes in menus by hand executed. Unilever has now stopped the advertising campaign, but so far refuses to change the name of the product.
The protest obviously many felt "proud Austrians" under attack: It followed a spate of racist readers letters and emails. A central role and take a Simon Inou Afrikanet.info , there are also media reports and emails documents (a small selection):
M * in the shirt and the racist paranoia of many "Austrians"
Courier: When old words bring new suffering
* The fact that "Eskimo" is itself a racist term makes clear, such as Unilever deal with racist language.
